Binangonan is a municipality in Rizal Province, Philippines. It is located very near Manila, and with the continuous expansion of the latter, Binangonan, Rizal, is now actually considered part of the Philippines’ capital. This makes it one of the most accessible municipalities in the province because public transportation can easily go in and out of it. It is known for its rich history and old churches, including the Sta. Ursula Parish Church and Mt. Calvary (Kalbaryo of Baranggay Libid), where you can have a breathtaking view ofthe Laguna Lake and the whole town of Binangonan, Rizal.

Some of the other things to do in Binangonan include:

  • Experience the Giwang-Giwang – this tradition is done during Holy Week, where devotees dramatize Jesus’ funeral. Thousands of devotees try to touch the sepulcher, making it move side to side, thus, the name Giwang-Giwang (to sway incessantly).
  • Climb Mt. Tagapo – also known as Mt. Susong Dalaga, this famous mountain resembles a young woman’s breast. The summit is very easy to reach, with a hike of only 2 hours. It was rated with a 2/9 difficulty level, so it is great for beginners and experienced hikers alike.
  • Visit the Puente del Diablo (Bridge of the Devil) – this peninsular hill is located in Laguna de Bay. During the summer, it gives the appearance of a ruined stone bridge. Visit the site and hear the story from the townspeople firsthand, and you will surely be more astonished with the bridge.
  • Visit the Manansala Historical Shrine – the shrine is not as nice as it used to be but if you are into arts, you will definitely enjoy seeing the original works of National Artist Vicente Manansala inside it.
  • Take a look at the Angono Petroglyphs – this famous site is filled with rock engravings and other historical, archaeological treasures. It was, in fact, a nominee for the “100 Most Endangered Sites of the World”, so it is definitely one worth visiting.
